seattle tours p.1: Deluxe Junk

sometimes i get so giddy when i think about where i live. i LOVE seattle. there are so many wonderful (and strange) people and things here. so, i think i've made a decision. and the decision is this: i would love to share a little bit of my city and adventures within it here on this little blog in a series called "seattle tours." in this series it is my mission to bring to attention the BEST ever places and things to go to. reason one: this can be a reference for any and all who wish to visit these rainy lands. reason two: i am hoping to lure my far distance friends and family to the northwest and these posts will subconsciously make them want to be here. so when they make the decision to visit, they will think it is their own good idea and intuition.

the first stop on this tour is Deluxe Junk, located in the colorful neighborhood called Fremont; a quaint and magical little vintage shop.

these are just a few of the marvelous things i saw there, and the sad, little phone camera pictures don't really do it justice, but hopefully you can see that it is quite the treasure trove! i scored a little shirt-type-of thing that was green with puffy sleeves, and the handwriting on the tag told me it was from the 70s. that purchase, however, is the one thing i did not take a picture of, wouldn't you know. so you can just imagine it in your mind if you want to. green little shirt thing with puffy sleeves. alright, well now i know the image you're coming up with is atrocious. so nevermind that, just believe that it is kind of neat.

also neat: the nice men working there were having a very intellectual conversation about "hugo." have you seen that movie? IT IS SO GOOD. if you have not seen it, i strongly suggest it. but maybe not in 3D. i did not see it in 3D, but this movie in 3D made one of the gentlemen ill, and i believe him because 3D movies make me sick, too, so you should just avoid that altogether.

back to the store. you know what is so fun about vintage stores? imagining where the items came from, and who used them. do you do this too? like my puffy shirt, who wore that thing? where are they now?

the typewriter? i wonder what was written with it - a masterpiece novel perhaps? love notes? business letters? letters of blackmail? it is possible.

the teacups - how many sunny afternoon tea times were spent by classy ladies with scones? what kinds of conversations took place between sips? these are the things i think about.

deluxe junk. situated in a very hip and fun part of town. nice people. thought provoking. puffy-shirt selling. all in all a winner of vintage shops.

Out of all the things I really want in these pictures, I want a globe the most!

  4. Hugo does look really cute, I guess it's lucky I prefer films not to be in 3d lol. That shop looks so cool, I want to visit!
